Morrison & Foerster, LLP helps obtain justice for low-income seniors and people with disabilities

After two long years, and with the help of a wonderful pro bono team from Morrison & Foerster, LLP, we reached a settlement in Darling, et al. v Douglas. This important settlement preserves the rights of the plaintiffs and 35,000 class action members under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to continue to live in their own homes and communities, and receive the healthcare services and supports needed to remain independent. The lead plaintiff in the case, Esther Darling, described how Adult Day Health Care has helped her, “Before I came to the Center, I used a wheelchair all the time, but now I can walk. My life is so much better because of the Center. I would be lost without it. The Center is my home away from home. They’ve been a friend, family, all in one. And I thank everyone who’s fought for this right and for everybody at the Center. God love them.”

My colleagues at Disability Rights California and I could not have reached such a favorable outcome without the support of Morrison & Foerster, LLP and their contribution of more than 800 hours of pro bono work. We are extremely grateful to all of the pro bono attorneys from Morrison & Foerster, LLP for their hard work and dedication to providing justice for Mrs. Darling and the many other Californians like her. Donate to the Justice Gap Fund today to join Morrison & Foerster, LLP and thousands of other attorneys across California to ensure that every Californian has access to justice.
